Weekend Update

We had a great weekend!  Morgan stayed with my mom and had a great time with her big cousins Suga, Carmelanie, Alteria, and Makayla (who was visiting from Virginia).  They went to Oxford Lake Saturday and stayed a long time.  Morgan enjoyed the swings and rest of the playground for just a few minutes, but eventually went on to what really makes her happy: hills and inclined sidewalks and steps.  Silly girl.

Mama took a few phone pics and sent them to me.

Not sure what this facial expression means, LOL.

It seems like every picture Morgan takes she has on this outfit!  For a couple of months, it was one of the few outfits she could actually wear.  All of sudden her 12-month clothes were too short.  And when we went to buy her some cool-weather clothes in the next size, there were none.  I remember being all excited about robbing the clearance racks for cool-weather clothes because I knew all the warm weather clothes were being put out.  NO LUCK.  No one had anything.  And if they did, of course her size was gone.  So for several weeks, we had to be creative with her outifts -- a whole lot of mixing and matching.  We are SO glad it's warming up -- last week we went and bought her some warm weather clothes -- mostly dresses. I love putting her in cool, comfortable dresses in the warm months.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was a little boy. :)

This one really looks like my child is going in the road, but that's the track at the park.

Enjoying the swing here.

Feeding the duck.

Morgan had a great time with her Memaw and big cousins.  Her first entire weekend away from home wasn't so bad (it only bothers me and her daddy -- she's always good).  We don't plan to make a habit of it, but it's not impossible now. :)

The main reason it probably didn't feel so bad is because DK and I got a few things done.  We got all of Morgan's too-little clothes out of her room and sent them home with my mom.  We "rescued" our kitchen, who was drowning in mail and paperwork and whatever else I'd bring in and didn't put up.  Then my huzzband and I had a date night -- dinner and a movie (my favorite).  We saw Why Did I Get Married Too.  It wasn't quite as good as the first one, but I always like how Tyler Perry meshes real-life challenges with comedy.  So funny!  Anyway, DK and I had a good weekend -- but we were very happy to get our baby on Sunday. :)

I'll end this post with a funny little insult that Danny gave me Sunday morning.  And you'd have to know Danny and have been there to get the full effect of course...Sunday morning I was flipping through a recipe book, deciding what I'd try that day.  I love trying new recipes, but half the time they don't turn out so great.  DK asked what I was looking at, and when he realized it was a recipe book, he said, "I'm good" (as in NO THANKS).  I thought I would DIE laughing because he was SO SERIOUS.

Now, he's a good sport, and will pretty much eat anything I make.  But LIKING it is a different story.  I'm an awful cook, but how am I going to get better if I don't continue to practice?  So I headed to the grocery store anyway.  I decided to skip the recipes and just cook from my "soul."  I whipped up some beef tips and mushrooms, potatoes and onions, green bean casserole, and rolls.

I was going to attempt the Pioneer Woman's Steak Bites again (the first time I made them, they turned out way too salty).  But I decided to just make plain ol' beef tips and season them with whatever I felt like and throw in some mushrooms.

Then the potatoes and onions were something I've been wanting to try since coming from my grandmother's house last weekend.  She made some for my brother and I probably ate half the pan.  She gave me the recipe, but I didn't have all the "ingredients" that she uses.  Bacon grease.  I don't have any bacon grease.  And onions -- I forgot to grab those at the store, so I used minced onion in the container, plain ol' butter, and lots of pepper.  They turned out pretty good!

And then the green bean casserole (my favorite side dish ever) - I even skipped the recipe on that.  I used more milk to make it creamier and threw in the rest of the mushrooms I had from the meat.  You can't really mess up green bean casserole.

And we ate Publix rolls (hey, I'm not Betty Crocker).

Anyway, Danny said that it was the best meal of mine he's ever had!  While it isn't hard to beat anything I've made in the past, I still think that maybe I shouldn't rely so much on recipes.  If I do my own thing sometimes, maybe I can become a halfway decent cook.

Anyway, I've got a busy week ahead.  I wish everyone a nice, safe, and productive week!
