Getting Ready for Summer with Our 17-Month Old!

We haven't been up to very much around here.  Just trying to finish up the school year and prepare for summer.  I've decided to teach summer school, but it will only be for three weeks.  I'll have the whole month of July off.  Summer school is always a very laid-back experience for me -- the students are there because they want to be.  I teach a credit advancement course, so it's not a classroom full of students that have failed and don't want to be there.  That makes it a whole lot easier, for sure.  I'm glad I'll have the entire month of July to just hang around with my little sweetheart!  I've already started planning our "field trips" for the summer.  I plan to be a tourist in my own metropolitan area -- we're talking the zoo, the McWane Center, the Childrens HandsOn Museum in Tuscaloosa -- good times!  I also can't wait to take her to the Georgia Aquarium.  And then I plan to buy her a baby pool and sit out in the yard and let her "swim" until she gets tired. :)  Sooo looking forward to summer!

Morgan recently turned 17 months.  I decided I'm going to start addressing her little age updates TO her instead of just talking about her...

Dear Morgan,
You are such an amazing, funny, kid!  One word to describe you:  fiesty.  You love your independence, and you have quite the personality.  You are a tad bossy and sometimes a little impatient (we're working on that).  But most of the time, you're just this happy, funny, smiling, burst of energy.

Your favorite food is wheat toast.  You've become quite a picky eater.  I used to give you veggies with no problem -- now I have to hide them in your "good" food.  One of your favorite meals is mac 'n cheese (with peas and carrots mixed in - ha)!  When you don't want a particular thing or you are done, you do this funny thing where you close your eyes and shake your head.  It's too funny.  And your favorite beverage is milk.  You don't really care for juice, and you only drink water when you're tired from playing.

You still love music and dancing.  When you were first born, I bought several of my own favorite kid songs from I was a little girl and downloaded them to my iPhone.  They mostly include music from Disney soundtracks.  Though you've never seen The Lion King, your favorite song is "Just Can't Wait to Be King."  You love Simba's part and can sing several little parts of it (one-word parts, LOL).  And you love to sing the "WAIT" and "KING" parts when he sings the chorus.  It's the cutest thing.  You love "Hakuna Matata" and "Under the Sea" (from The Little Mermaid), too.  Any day that you're a little tired from school and a little whiney, all I have to do is plug in my phone and turn on your jams, and you're a happy baby in that back seat.

You love books.  You sit down and "read" them several times a day.  It's so funny to listen to you.  Your favorite book is a Sesame Street book called "Bubbles, Bubbles."  You like for us to read it to you over and over.  You like it so much that your Auntie Ash has memorized the whole book and can say it to you over the phone.  I am so glad you like books and I hope you stay that way.

You are saying more and more words everyday.  Some of your favorites are bubbles, socks, shoe, water, bath, bird, dog (you call every four-legged animal a dog), eat, book, milk, and sit.  My favorite word of yours is snack, though, because it sounds like this: "h-nack."  So funny!  You're saying new words every day and I just think it's the cutest thing.

Of all the things you say, though, you don't really call me Mama consistently.  You say it sometimes, but you say DaDa ALL THE TIME (no fair)!  You could be in the bathtub and hear him walk in the door and you'll automatically say "DaDa!"  You walk through the house looking for him saying "DaDa." I guess I can't be jealous, though, because you still choose me over Daddy most of the time.  Like when you wake up from your nap and we both run in there to try to get to your first (yes, we do that), you always reach for Mama.  It's almost like you don't call me anything, LOL -- you just know me as the lady that "takes care of me and feeds me and bathes me and hugs and kisses me all the time...what's her name, though?" LOL. I had someone tell me that I better enjoy it because there will come a day when I'll get tired of hearing, "Mama, mama, mama, mama..."

Here you are with your Auntie Ash at Spain Park's spring game.

And with your Honey Gran.  You really love hanging out with your Honey and PaPa.  You recently came home from a night with them and you didn't even want to come to Mama and Daddy! :)

Running around the football field.

We could let you do this all day and you'd be thrilled!

Your Memaw recently sent you home with a few toys from her stash.  This xylophone is one of your favorites.  Makes a lot of noise!

But THIS is what you are really in love with.

You love your broom and mop, but aren't really interested in the vacuum cleaner.

Mama's Little Custodian

As you can see, you love toys of all kinds.  Your PaPa sent you home with this today.

You've had your horsey since you were 10 months old, but recently learned to get on and off by yourself.

And you are so proud of yourself when you do it.

The last 17 months have been the best in my entire life. Your daddy and I are so crazy in love with you and feel so blessed to be your parents!  We love you, Monster!

I hope everyone has a great week.  This is officially our last week of "teaching," (next week is just exams), so it's pretty much a wrap for me.  This school year has flown by.  I had polite, funny, and just really pleasant students that I am going to miss very much.  But it's definitely time for us to part because they're starting to act like the sophomores they're about to become! :)

Have a great week, everybody!
