Update (The Fourth, Summer Projects, and 19-Months!)

Hey! It's been a week since I last posted -- too long! Waiting that long usually results in a ridiculously long post -- no exceptions this time! :) We've had a lot going on in the past week.

First of all, we had a great Fourth. After weeks of being undecided, we finally concluded that we'd still go to the beach for the holiday. My MIL, FIL, SIL, CIL (cousin-in-law), hubby, and little one all headed there early Friday morning. We had a great time -- got some beach time, pool time, and shopping time.

The beach was great. (I've already had people ask about the oil -- sometimes you could see specks of oil in the sand, and sometimes you could see patches far out in the water. Overall, it wasn't bad. It was a little heartbreaking to see even that, though.)  Morgan wasn't too crazy about the sand in general at first but she eventually warmed up.

We got to enjoy the outdoor pool this time (last time we went it was March -- and cold!). Morgan loved it.

And of course we checked out the outlet mall. The first thing I did when I got there was go pick up a coupon book from the office, haha (if you're a AAA member, it's free. And my MIL said if you look in those local magazines, you can find a voucher for a free one, too). Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of shopping in general, so I just enjoyed the sun and walking. They do have a Toys R Us outlet and I picked up a couple of small things for the Monster to play with while we were there. I also bought a dress from Gymboree. Get this: I paid RETAIL for it. The dress was crimson and white (polka dots) and was too Crimson Tide-ish to leave on the rack. It's adorable and I'll most likely get something monogrammed in front. That's at least one tailgating outfit for the fall!

Anyway, of course I took lots of pics.

It was a really good breeze this day so those bubbles in her hand sort of blew themselves.  She was thrilled.

Jazzy and Ms. Pat

I have a pic like this from last year where she's napping (see below).  Amazing how she's grown.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes is one of her favorite songs right now.  So she had my in-laws singing it a million times during the trip so she could do the hand motions.

"Head, shoulders...

...and toes...

On the "eyes and ears and mouth and nose" part, she, um, sort of got stuck on the nose part.  This was too funny not to post.

Her legs super chunky right here! I could just bite 'em!

Man, this ball had me and Jazzy literally running full speed down the beach!  It weighs nothing, so even the lightest breeze had it moving.

Look at the camera, Mo.

Oh, how I love these two!

If we go to the beach again this year, I hope to take a pic we can use on a Christmas cards.  You know, one where we have regular clothes on.

Got a pic like this from last year, too, with her Tee Tee Ash (see below).  She was a little ball of chunk.  Now she's a long, lean toddler machine.

The in-laws in the hot tub.

"I love snacks!"

I'd never seen this little high-chair thing.  It was really neat.

These are phone pics, so they're a little less clear.

Oh, how I wish this one wasn't so dark.

My hair looks a hot mess and poor Ash's face is burnt like crazy, but Jaz looks good!  Yeah, I know it's upside down.  It does that sometimes when I upload from my phone.  Slightly annoying.

Speaking of Jasmin, last year I took some pics of her on the beach and this year we did the same thing!  Here are a few of them.

The Independence Day shot!

Our trip to the beach was great!

The beach hasn't been the only recent summer highlight in the past few days.  Remember that big project I said I wanted to tackle in my house this summer?  The one that involved cleaning the junk room and moving Morgan's room and all that?  Well, IT'S DONE!  The day after we got home from the beach, my (sometimes) sweet husband must've been in the mood to clean because he grabbed some big bags and just started.  I originally wanted to do the zoo that day but jumped right in with him.  I am so glad he did because it didn't take nearly as long as I thought.  We threw away a lot of stuff, packed up tons of stuff and took it to the Salvation Army, and even had the energy to switch the rooms out.  Morgan's room is now closer to us and her old room is now the office/guest room.

Speaking of the office, when we dropped off that stuff at the Salvation Army, we just decided to go in to see if they had a desk we could put in our "new" office (for years we just used a table for the computer equipment.)  Well, we found this for cheap!

Besides a few little nicks, it's in really good condition.  The size is perfect.  We were about to start looking at brand new desks and sales and all that stuff, but are so glad we found this.  Apparently the Salvation Army gets a truck in every day so we'll be in going every once in a while to look for bookshelves.  We need one for the office and the Monster's room.  My mama's a thrift store junkie, so she was SO PROUD of us, LOL!

In other adventures, Danny woke up yesterday to a completely DEAD phone.  We went to AT&T and they said we'd either have to upgrade or go to the Apple store where they'd charge an arm and a leg to fix it.  So the whole time we were thinking Danny's probably going to have to get the new iPhone alreadyl...the only problem with that is, NO ONE HAS THEM.  Not even the Apple store and they really didn't know when they would get more.  Fun.  So I called the Apple store and originally couldn't get an appointment, but called back later and was successful.  Of course when we got there all of Birmingham was there getting their iPhone, iPod, or Mac serviced.  We ended up waiting about 30 minutes before Danny was even seen.  Then another 20 minutes or so of them fixing his phone -- yep, it's fixed!  He lost everything, so it was a huge wake-up call to us that we need to regularly back up our stuff. I mean he lost EVERYTHING.  Anyway, we were just glad to not have to pay for a brand new phone.  We plan to do with the iPhone 4 what we did with the 3 -- wait until the craze is over and get it for a cheaper price.

Anyway, the little one was already tired (and probably hungry -- I left my stash of snacks at home) while we were there, and just wasn't in the best mood.  Luckily they had little computer stations set up for young'ns.

This kid was just thrilled to be able to play on the computer without hearing, "No,no, Morgan.  Mama and Daddy's computer.  Here is yours." *Handing her a fake, plastic, pink 'baby laptop' that she only likes sometimes because of the music it plays.*

She was GONE with the typing.  You'd a thought she was typing a super-important report that was due very soon.

After going up to people waving and staring (yes, we have that kid), she eventually grew even more tired. So I took her outside to play on none other than some steps!  That just made her day and she threw a FIT when it was time to go.  I mean, major.  As in probably the biggest one she's ever thrown.  Combine her disappointment with having to leave the stairs with the heat, hunger, and being tired...well, just use your imagination.  We eventually got her home, fed her, bathed her, and put her to bed.

Anyway, yesterday was a big day -- Morgan turned 19 months!  Honestly, she's getting to the age now where it's extremely hard to keep up with the "new" stuff she does.  No longer can I specify that she can now say "this" and "that" because she says a ton of new words and says a ton of new things constantly.  She's just at that age.  So now I'll just write her a short note about her new age and maybe mention something memorable that recently happened...sort of like this:

Dear Morgan,
You're 19 months!  One month closer to being two -- hard to believe.  You're doing a ton of new things every day and constantly amaze your daddy and me.  We are just so in love with you and everything you do.

On your 19-month day, while feeding I was feeding you dinner, you literally took the spoon out of my hand.  It was almost like you were saying, "Mom, I'm 19 months! I can feed myself!"  It was so funny.  What surprised me even more is how great a job you did.  It was like you'd done it a million times before.  I must check with your school -- maybe you have (though they usually let parents know things like that).  Either way, Mama and Daddy were just giddy watching you eat by yourself.  You obviously eat all fingers foods on your own, but anytime it's messy or something that requires a spoon, we've always handled it.  We probably weren't doing you any favors -- ooops.  Anyway, glad you took the spoon from me that day -- we probably would've been feeding you until you were five!

Another thing that recently happened is that you climbed out of your Pack 'n Play (and fell on the floor and cried, but you were okay).  Your daddy and I were shocked (and amused, of course).  You're just really becoming a big girl.  Now that you're climbing out of things, Mama and Daddy are going to transition your bed to the toddler phase.

And last, but not least, we've noticed this month that your hair is getting longer or thicker.  Not sure which, but child, it has a mind of it's own!  I'd say 95% of the time, you look like a child who's mama didn't comb her hair!  It's just it's own little entity no matter how much you comb or brush it.  I try to camoflauge it with a bow on top, and you always pull that out.  And it usually leaves a piece sticking straight up which makes your 'do even more messed up.  Once it grows a little bit more, Mama will know what to do with it.  Then maybe your bad hair days won't every day.

Anyway, Mama and Daddy loves you no matter how many bad hair days, temper tantrums, or how many times I have to wipe pasta off the kitchen floor.  You are SUNSHINE, baby girl, and we are just BLESSED.

Anyway, I hope everyone's had a great week!  Tomorrow's Friday!  By the way, this summer is going WAY too fast.  Gotta enjoy it while it's here!  Have a good weekend everybody!

  1. I love these beach pictures. Glad you guys decided to go ahead and go. Can't beat a good trip to the beach! I am sure the dress you got is just too cute and will be perfect for AL games.

  2. Morgan is adorable! I love her little outfits! Glad you had a nice time at the beach. I have STILL never been to the AL gulf coast!!
