Friday Flashback

DK and I both were 18 years old in these pics!  He's three years older than me, so they were taken during different years.  Danny's mom isn't crazy about this pic of Danny because he showed up to his senior portraits session in a t-shirt (ha)! He ended up taking them again -- I'm sure I'll post those pics at a later date.  I didn't turn 18 until the fall of my freshman year of college, so I'm sure this isn't a shot from my senior portraits.  I think I won some kind of photo session from Olan Mills or something like that.  For years I really liked this pic, but not so much today.  At all.

Oh, well, here's Morgan's parents at 18!  Have a great weekend!

A Little Sunshine (with My Bookworm)

We've been taking advantage of this pleasant weather.  I'm all for kids getting lots of outside play. There's nothing like a big open space to run as much as you like with fresh air, a blue sky, the smell of grass, etc.  You can't get that out of any toy or playroom.  I'd like Morgan to have the kind of childhood we had -- not the kind where kids stay in all day and play video games and surf the Net.  I'm with Michelle Obama on the childhood obesity thing -- let's keep our kids active.  On top of that, I want to take full advantage of these spring-like days before we're forced to stay in by the awfully hot and humid Alabama summer days.

I am super-swamped this week with school work and work work.  This is the first week I've felt flat out overwhelmed.  I knew that there would be bad weeks, but it's still no fun feeling like you have a million things due.  Those afternoons outside after school every day probably make me feel as good as they do Morgan because it gives me time to breathe, get some fresh air, relax, and spend time out in the sun with my favorite little person.

I snapped this picture after coming in from outside today.  This child always has a book in her hand (even when playing with Minnie and checking out a little Blue's Clues).  She loves books. It's hilarious to watch her read -- I've posted videos here before (but I don't have time to go back and link them right now -- maybe later). Back then it was a bunch of jibber jabber, but now, she knows the stories. It's amazing how quickly she memorizes a story after we've read it to her. I remember a few weeks ago I read her a book once or twice that I checked out from the public library. She read it again a day or so later with her daddy, and she'd memorized quite a bit of it. And she has a favorite book (called Please, Puppy, Please that I bought when I was pregnant with her) the she's seriously memorized word for word. Watching her read it never gets old to us. I love the fact that she loves books because it reminds me so much of my own childhood.

Anyway, gotta get back to work -- this work isn't gonna do itself.  Hope everyone's having a great week!

We've been pretty busy.  Work has been busy and grad school has picked up for me.  We've also been enjoying this beautiful weather with plenty of outside play.  My last post (from a week ago) was about snow and this post has pics of the Monster playing outside with no jacket!

Let me recap our Valentine's Day festivities.  Let me be clear first, though -- Valentine's Day doesn't get much attention in our house.  Honestly, the older I get the sillier it feels (for me -- I'm not judging you if you love it).

For weeks I knew about Morgan's Valentine's Day party at school.  I signed up to bring the cookies, bought the cookies several days in advance (in fear of forgetting), and thought I was done.  So one day the week before, we got a sheet with a list of names.  When I found it in Morgan's cubby, I was confused.  When I was trying to give it back to the teacher thinking it was accidentally placed in her cubby, I was told that a couple of parents had been asking for a list of names (so they gave them to everybody).  Then it dawned on me that this was for the Valentine's Day party.  Like two-year-olds giving Valentines.  I very quickly told myself, "Okay, good for those parents that asked for this list, but I think I have a couple of years before we do the individual-Valentines-for-classmates thing.  Two-year-olds don't care about Valentines and I'm not giving sugary candy to someone else's child when I've never given my own child candy."  Plus, I'd already bought something for her teachers weeks before because I felt like they were the only "people" in the class who knew anything about a Valentine's Day.  That list went on the backseat of the car and wasn't thought of again... until the weekend before the Valentine's Day party.  Maybe it all came to me or maybe I happened to run across this post, but I got to thinking that if one mom brings Valentines, then I have to, too.

I'm not crafty or creative -- especially when it comes to little cute things for kids -- but I did manage to put together a little fun bag for Morgan's friends at school (with a healthy snack).  Danny picked her up from school that day because I had a parent night at school, but I was surprised to come home to see a bag full of Valentines from her friends at school!  Complete with Valentine's Day cards, plenty of candy, and a few other little things.  Man, I'm glad I went ahead and put together those little fun bags!  Geez!  So I was dead wrong about waiting until elementary school for those types of Valentine's Day parties.  It apparently starts now! :)

Though we don't make a big deal of Valentine's Day, it was a fun opportunity to take Morgan to a Valentine's-themed Kindermusik class (I took some pics, but they're from my phone and super blurry) and give her a new book (a cute little children's book that talks about unconditional love).

She also got a balloon from her school.  They are so, SO sweet to the kids. Morgan chose the froggy.

She went to a basketball game with my inlaws over the weekend, so DK and I actually went out to an unplanned dinner (the Saturday before Valentine's Day).  Of course dinners with just the two of  us are rare, so it was nice to not have to hope and pray the whole time that the little one doesn't want to get out of the highchair - ha!  We checked out a local restaurant that we'd always heard so much about, and we got to sleep in the next morning (Morgan wakes up by 6:30 AM every day).  We slept 'til 9!

Another thing that happened this past week is that Morgan went through a growth spurt.  Her clothes seemed to fit one day and not the next!  It always happens like this -- just suddenly -- but it's harder during the winter time.  She wears mostly dresses in the summer, so it usually means her dresses are a little shorter (which isn't so obvious).  But in the winter time, we're talking too-short long sleeves and pants that all of a sudden only come down to her ankles.  And it's SO HARD to find cool weather clothes this time of year because everything for spring is out.  Even the clearance racks are ridiculously empty.  And who wants to buy new clothes when she'll be done with them in a few weeks?

So I'll have to be creative for the next few weeks in dressing her. Good thing she wears a lot of the same colors so mix-matching won't be so obvious.

Anyway, I actually snapped some pics this week because we went outside after school a couple of days.

One more thing:  I've been playing with some settings on my pictures and I seem to have messed up some links, so you'll see some pics missing.  I'm slowly working of fixing it.  I feel like my blog is 'sick' because of the missing photos. :-(  Anyway, have a great weekend, everyone!

Snow :)

We got a chance to play in the snow!  We were out of town when it snowed Christmas, and when it was supposed to snow a few weeks ago, it didn't happen in our area.  So I was thrilled to learn that we were expecting snow again, and even more thrilled that there was a delay in the school day because of it!  It gave us time to take the Monster out to play.  She wasn't too sure about the snow at first, but it didn't take long for her to warm up.  She would've played all day if we'd let her.  The last time it snowed at our house (and we were home), she was just a few months old, so it was fun seeing her enjoy it this time.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Missing Pics

I am aware that some pictures are missing around here. :)  I'm playing with some settings that are limiting what's showing, but I plan to have them all back up in the next week or so. Thanks!

I've been busy, busy, busy.  Lots of stuff going on at work -- February is always a busy month, and it's only going to pick up in the next couple of weeks.  Then school, of course.  It's now the fifth week and I've managed to keep my head above water.  And I'm really enjoying my classes.  More importantly, on top of this, my family time has not been compromised.  That was really important to me, yet it was what I feared when I recently went back to school.  It's been all good, though, and for that I feel so blessed.

I got a chance to spend time with some more special people this weekend -- some long-time friends.  My friend Keauna is getting married, and her bridal shower gave us a chance to all hang out for a little bit.

Tia, on the far left, is no stranger to the blog.  My Superwoman bestie.

Taneshia (in the pink shirt) is actually my cousin.  Our memories begin as early as pre-K.  She recently posted some pics on FB of our first day of kindergarten (which I'm sure I'll be eventually stealing for a Friday Flashback post). And I just recently came across some letters we wrote in each other in high school. Ha!

Keauna, the bride. :)  We've been friends since elementary school.  Many, many fun memories with this chick.

Taneshia modeling our wedding look.  She, Tia, and I were teammates for the wedding dress game.

Tia was the mastermind behind the dress.  I was responsible for the accessories (that awful bracelet on Taneshia's arm and that mess of a ring on her left hand - ha)!

And the cake.  It was sooo good.

It was so great hanging out with these girls.  We're all so busy with work, school, families, and all the other things life brings, so it's great spending a few hours together.

Before I go, I want to quickly share something with you.  I was recently contacted by the marketing team for, and they're offering a 10% discount for my blog readers. Go to my other blog to learn more.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Friday Flashback!

Yep, I almost forgot about my Friday Flashback.  The previous ones were all scheduled weeks in advance, so I didn't have to remember to do them.  Many of those Fridays I'd go to the blog and be surprised myself - ha!

Anyway, I'm panicking just a tad bit because I have no idea where I've put the flash drive with all my old pictures on it.  Thankfully I had a couple of old ones saved in Blogger.  Hopefully I can remember where I've put that flash drive!  Happy Friday!

This was in 2003 after church one day.

Sweet Thang

After reading my post from yesterday, I was reminded of how Morgan is just like her daddy in some ways.  Especially with how hard she plays.  It reminded me of the time shortly after we met when Danny made me cry!

Danny and I have always been very playful. We wrestled all the time and we still do to this day.  Most of the time, it ends up with me being mad at him because he plays SO ROUGH.

Well, one day very early in our relationship (which would be almost 10 years ago) we were playing and Danny was twisting my arm.  One minute I was laughing and playing but it very quickly turned around because it started hurting!  Danny was twisting and twisting and I was laughing and saying stop but he didn't stop because he assumed I was playing.  Then it got to the point where I couldn't talk anymore because I was in between laughing and crying and before I knew it, I burst into tears.  Poor Danny was mortified and repeatedly apologized.  I'm sure he thought I was crazy for laughing one second and crying the next.

Anyway, you'd think after that he'd be not-so-rough these days, but I'm pretty sure not a day has gone by where I haven't said, "Stop, Danny!  That hurts!"  He has no clue how hard he plays -- and it's not just me!  His mom and sister say the same thing!

And I think my little one has inherited that, seriously.  She plays SO hard.  Once again, you can ask my mother- and sister-in-law.  She's gotten them plenty of times.

As you can guess, I'm known as the wimp in my house!  They should just play with each other and leave me alone (then I'd be totally jealous)!  (:

Anyway, so now for the reason for my blog title - I decided to title it after these sweet thangs:

Pillsbury Valentine's Sugar Cookies - Yummo!

I threw these little treats in the oven so the little one and I could celebrate the start of February.  Not really (we're weird, but not that weird).  These cookies were just calling my name from the fridge.  I bought them to give away to her teachers and her friends at school for their Valentine's Day party, but I've dipped into the stash.  Party's next week, so I have time to get more. :)

Oh, and I probably shouldn't mention the fact that I'm in a weight loss competition against some relatives.  It's only Day Two and I've done some serious cheating two days in a row. Ha! Hoping for a better tomorrow. :)

No more blogging for me this week (with the exception of a Friday Flashback) because I have enough classwork for thirty people.  So, with that being said, I hope you're enjoying your week!
