Okay, so I'm pumped about a few things.  First, I knocked out a three-part certification exam today.  And it's not that it's a hard subject for me -- I actually teach a lot of the stuff (and hold an older version of the certification). But it's always unsettling going in to take ANY certification exam.  Like, what if I forget everything I know?  And I HATE having that feeling the whole time leading up to it. So, in true Gerri fashion, I called the testing center and asked if I could just come in two days early to take it.  Like in a few hours.  I wanted to be done with it.  Nevermind the fact that I hadn't officially studied.  And that I haven't looked at the book in a week.  THEN I get in there and realize that the book I'd been checking out this summer wasn't really the newest version.  Lovely.

So I took the easiest parts first -- basically the stuff I teach -- and was pretty confident throughout those.  Then I got to the hardware and networking component and prayed that my common sense would get me through.  It did (with flying colors). So I slightly overreacted about a certification exam that I could've taken with my eyes closed.  I'm just glad it's over!

Speaking of exams and stuff, my summer grad school classes have been great!  I was afraid I'd be swamped this summer, but it's actually turning out to be okay. As long as I don't wait until the last minute to do stuff (which I've only managed to do half the time -- which is an improvement for me), then I'm good.

Speaking of summer classes, my own summer school students have been great.  Tomorrow's my last day with this group.  While summer school is pretty laid back and I only have to grade tons of spreadsheets, databases, and presentations for 20 students instead of 125, I do wish I could get to know the kids better.  Three weeks is just not a lot of time.  One of the best things about my job is getting to know those kids and watching their skills grow.  I see that during the summer, but it's just not the same. Oh, remember when I said I'd need to get back used to teaching a mixture of grade levels?  Well, my summer school class this term was made up of half freshmen and half seniors.  Perfect practice!

I'm super pumped about the break I'm getting after this first term.  I'll have a week off -- which is perfect -- before my next group comes in.  I wasn't planning on teaching two terms of summer school.  I thought, like last year, I'd teach three weeks and then be done for the summer.  But more kids registered for the course than expected, so duty calls.  And I don't mind.  Summer school is just that cool.

Want to know what else I'm super pumped about?  A family get-together for the 4th of July!  I was asked to bring pasta salad, which I think I've made a total of one time.  I was thinking about finding a cool recipe online (red, white, and blue pasta, anyone?), but I think I'll stick with the basics (and hit up my Aunt Elida for the recipe).

Oh, and on top of all this awesomeness, I worked out this morning!  A buddy and I are doing the 30-Day Shred together, and I picked up the DVD this weekend.  Jillian Michaels kicked my booty!  I'm not kidding y'all (TMI warning) -- I vomited this morning after my workout.  I don't think it's because I pushed myself too hard -- I know not to do that -- but because I ate a piece of fruit right before my workout.  And she pushes so hard in that DVD that all of that fruit came right back up!  And, um, y'all, it was Level 1 of the DVD.  There are two more levels. Am I an out-of-shape wimp, or what?  Anyhoo, I look forward to tomorrow morning.  I HATED Jillian Michaels the workout at the time (I thought I was going to pass out), but for some reason I'm ready for more.  Ha!

And we had a great weekend!  We spent a lot of the weekend at home (with hopes of cleaning, yet my house still looks the same).  Morgan stayed a night with my sister-in-law while DK and I had date night.  We saw a chick flick, which is usually hard to convince him to do, but we went to see a dude flick a couple of weeks ago -- so it was The Wife's turn! :)

We also made colored pasta this weekend!  I got the fun idea here and wasn't surprised it was a big hit in my house.  If you're thinking about doing this, it's very easy.  I actually dyed the pasta without Morgan since it involved alcohol and food coloring (and I could just see the disaster -- no, thanks).  And instead of letting it dry overnight, I put to use this Southern heat and my backporch area -- and it was ready in a couple of hours!  She loved it!

It kept her entertained for a while = success!

I hope everyone's having a great week! :)
