You Are My Sunshine

I'd been thinking about crafting with Morgan this summer.  We do a lot of reading and coloring and playing music in this house, but crafts?  Um, no.  The thought of a busybody two-year-old with paint and glue and glitter was just not something I was ready for.  Plus she crafts all the time at preschool -- I was perfectly okay leaving that up to them.

Well, not really.  Especially as she gets older.   Now it's time for US to do crafts together, so I got some supplies this week.  Yesterday we dedicated an afternoon to making the sun.  This is what we ended up with:

Oh, how I wish it was as simple as this pic seems.  Now the craft itself was simple.  It's just that...well...

Morgan thought SHE should be yellow, TOO.  So she added a splash of yellow to her hands, legs, and feet.

She'd help me with the actual craft every now and then.

She even painted Miss Sun's nose and mouth.  (Don't try to figure out Miss Sun's face, okay?  She wears a lot of makeup, okay?  Ha!)

When I told her we were done and that it was time to clean up, she wasn't ready to be done.

I thought, "Well, she's covered in paint anyway.  May as well let her play with it until she gets tired of it."  So I thought I'd start another quick craft -- one with pom poms -- to distract her from painting herself.

But painting her feet blue was more important.

And I ended up creating Mr. Octopus mostly by myself (excuse the fact that he has six legs -- two fell off).  She helped me paint his body and helped me glue a couple of pom poms on him, but that's about it. Clearly painting herself was way more fun.   As if paint everywhere wasn't enough, we wrapped up our little craft session with a pee-pee accident.  Ha!

I have to admit that I enjoyed seeing her concentrate so hard on her body art.  She was serious about it, now.  But next time I'll try something with no paint and see how it goes.

Have a great weekend!

Crafts were adaptations of those found here and here.
