Cousins + Soccer + Tiaras (& Music)!

We had a great weekend! A long one, at that, since we're home today for President's Day. I've been super busy at work, so I appreciate the extra day to refresh.

We've had two weekends with family.  Last weekend M played and played with her cousins.  She also met a new cousin, E, who was here from St. Louis.  The last time I saw E was on a family beach trip four years ago.  He was a brand new baby, and I was just a few months pregnant with M.  It's so funny to see them play together.  She ran behind E the whole time, and still talks about him.

She also stayed a day with her Great Aunt A last weekend.  When I called to check on her, she quickly told me that she was having a great time, and that she'd talk to me "later." She still talks about that day.  She tells anyone who talks to her, including the random waiter from last week, about her day with Aunt A and Buddy (the dog).

This past Friday night she stayed at my mom's with my two nieces, my younger cousin, and my mom's two godchildren. Mama had six kids there! Those kids had a great time as you could imagine.

M with my two nieces -- who are SO sweet together!

{{{My two nieces have a sibling love that is so precious -- NOTHING like their daddy and I were at that age!  We were at each others' throats all the time, yet these two love on each other like crazy.  I hope M will treat her future brother/sister like they treat each other.}}}

We also went to M's big cousin H's soccer tournament this weekend, which they won (defeating an older team)!

!!  CHAMPS  !!

M took her soccer ball to the game, so she and H's younger brothers C and M played their own little soccer game.

Saturday night I worked a school event.  My school holds a pageant for Miss Senior Class, and this year over 100 girls sought the title.

Top 30

While 100 girls sounds like quite a bit, we're talking about 100 girls out of a senior class of 600+ kids.  That comes out to about 1/3 of the senior girls wanting the title.

One of the most rewarding things about what I do is that I get the chance to see young people grow in many ways.  And since I teach mostly freshmen, events like this senior girl pageant are extra special to me.  I see former students who have grown tremendously in confidence and grace.   Heartwarming, I tell you.

I also got to see some of my former boy students at the pageant as they served as escorts and such.  It's crazy how much the boys grow over those three years -- they're so TALL!  And they have deep voices - ha!

Speaking of voices, we have this awesome boys choir who remind me of my favorite male acapella group, Straight No Chaser (if you've never heard Straight No Chaser, click here.  So amazing.)

There are some talented choirs at our school, but this one's probably my favorite.  Everything they perform just makes me smile.  I recorded one of their numbers Saturday night:

Aren't they adorable?

Have a great week, everyone!  Be back soon.

Disclaimer:  I typically don't post pics of my students/former students on my blog for many reasons.  But since this was a public event and the pic and video are far enough away that you can't make out faces, I've decided to break my own rule.
