Day Out with Thomas

We've had a pretty good weekend.  We took M to her very first soccer lesson Saturday morning, and DK and I squeezed in a dinner date Saturday night.  Other than that, we've been doing laundry and stuff (me), yardwork (DK), and making a mess (M).

I need to document our little Day Out with Thomas from last weekend...

Though M's obsession with Thomas isn't quite what it used to be, we thought that since he was coming to our area, it'd be fun for her to meet him in person.

They had some cute little stations set up for the kids to keep them occupied while they waited for their Thomas ride (storytelling, bouncy house, bubble stations, train tables, etc.).

We had a bit of an issue at the bouncy house.  When it was time to move on to the next station, we told M it was time to get out. Well, she heard us -- but she didn't do what she was told.  She just laughed and played like we weren't even there.  For like 15 minutes!  Let me tell you -- I was THIS close to climbing in to get that little girl out before she finally decided to make an exit.  You can just imagine the tears when we told her that we were leaving for good (which was an easy punishment for me to give since we'd been there long enough to get our money's worth - ha).  Hopefully she learned her lesson.

With the exception of the bouncy house, day-ending fiasco, we had a great time. :-)

Have a good week!  I'll post about M's first little soccer class in a few days -- be back soon!

Soccer & Bears w/Cousins

Last weekend we got a chance to spend time with cousins we only get to see every once in a while.  M has cousins that play soccer, and sometimes they play in our area (like cousin H, who we saw play back in February).  This past weekend, we got to see Cousin K do her thing.  And like Cousin H, she's REALLY good. Her team defeated a tough team 2-1, and K scored both goals!

Hard to believe she was a little flower girl in our wedding almost six years ago.

She has a mean left foot. A left foot we saw win two games last weekend.
A left foot that helped her team become the tournament champs - go K!

Then we went to the mall for a little Build-a-Bear fun (M's first time).  Here's M and Little K (soccer star's little sis) in one of those clever coin-snatcher cars in the middle of the mall.

Giving her bear, Rosie, a bath.

The Girls and Their Bears
(One of those pics you pull back out in 10 years when they're all moody teenagers and you wish you could rewind time.)

Then we had dinner at Joe's Crab Shack.
M with her TeeTee.

Soccer star with her crab legs!

Then my sister-in-law was sweet enough to watch the kids while we went to see Think Like a Man with Cousins L and L (mama and daddy to the two Ks).  Loved the movie, by the way.  Kevin Hart is too funny.  Great weekend with fam!

I'll post again Sunday or Monday about our little Thomas the Train adventure.  He was in our area, so we went to check him out.

In the meantime, have a great weekend!  Nothing on the agenda for us, but you never know what we might get into...

Be back soon!

Park Action

We stopped by two parks on the way home from Atlanta a couple of weekends ago.  No reason but to kill time.

We'd eaten lunch right before and took some bread to feed the ducks.

Most of the time when M smiles for pics, it involves one eye being closed like this one.

She still  loves carrying a stick around anytime we're outside.

We ended up at Noccalula Park that day, too (if you're not familiar with the Noccalula legend, it's about a beautiful Indian princess who jumped to her death to avoid marrying a man her father had chosen for her -- she was in love with someone else).  As sad as that sounds, the park is actually filled with beautiful gardens, many traces of history, and recreation.

Checking out the waterfall (stick in hand).

Train Ride

An old pioneer village.

Checking out the napping lion (stick in hand).

M has been to Noccalula before with my in-laws (it's in my husband's hometown), and I'd been a few times, too.  But I don't remember the petting zoo or pioneer village.  It was cool seeing something new.  They're putting the finishing touches on a new playground area, so I can see many Noccalula days in the future.

Hope everyone's having a great week.  I'll have another post up for Friday.

More from ATL Last Weekend (+ I've Been Bitten Again)

We're coming off another fun weekend that included time with family, soccer games, Build-a-Bear, and Thomas the Train himself.  But I still haven't finished recapping LAST weekend...

While we were in Atlanta for the concert, we hung out with the fam, too. We were originally going to attend one of the family lunch get-togethers that we've always missed, but two of my aunts got sick a day or two before, so it was cancelled (hope y'all feel better, Aunties).  But we still hung out with my dad, stepmom, and sisters.

My stepmom's sister opened a restaurant that weekend, so we met them there.  It's a soul food restaurant - um, YES PLEASE.  The food was great -- expecially the cake!

M loving the key lime cake (or the "green cake," as she calls it).

Of course she got to see her friend, T.

And of course she loves seeing her Big Daddy, my dad.

I absolutely adore this pic.

Dad and his girls.
I'm the oldest, R (gray shirt) is the middle, and then L (white shirt) is the baby.
I still have a hard time believing they're basically grown women in their early 20s. *sigh*

Anyway, we're gearing up for another great work week.  We only have a month left in school -- it has REALLY flown by.  I'm in the process of deciding what's on our agenda for the summer.  I may teach summer school, and -- GUESS WHAT -- I think I'm ready to go back to school.

I thought for sure that last semester would make me despise school for an entire year at least, but last week, I was bitten by that ol' Ambitious Bug yet again.  I think I'm ready to knock this thing on out.  I only have about three classes remaining to get this EdS, so the I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm going to try to take my time this go 'round and take only one class per semester.  That will have me finishing about a year from now.  Plus, if I want to have another baby before M's a teenager, I need to go ahead and finish all this schooling. So I think I may jump back in there this summer semester.

I'm gonna try to catch up on my blogging this week, so I'll get something posted for Wednesday and Friday.  Wednesday I'll finally wrap up the weekend before last, and then share the cool stuff we did this past weekend.  See?  Ambitious!

Enjoy your week!  Be back Wednesday!

Fresh Beat Band Live!

Hey, guys.  April has been crazy busy.  I've slept in a hotel seven nights the past two weeks on three different occasions.  I'm finally starting to feel a bit settled again.  And I'm finally catching up at work.  Whew!

We spent the weekend in Atlanta for a HUGE event Friday night...

The Fresh Beat Band!

Before they added our city to their tour, we bought tickets to see the Fresh Beat Band in Atlanta.  This was way back in November, so we've patiently waited almost half a year (crazy, right?) to finally see the Fresh Beat Band in concert.  For those of you who aren't up on the Fresh Beats (ha), it's a preschool musical show on Nick Jr.  But you're not gonna find any cheesey Barney-like songs (sorry, Barney).  The Fresh Beats have very hip hop and pop-like songs with a little classical, country, and everything else mixed in.  Let's just say that I MAY know all the words to all the songs.  And maybe the choreography, too.  Yeah.  So of course I was just as excited as M was about the show. :)

Ready.

I bought her a personalized shirt off eBay for like $10.  We ended up buying an official tour shirt once we got there for double that price, but it was well worth it.

Big cameras weren't allowed, so all my pics and videos are from the iPhone.  I hate that I'm such a rule follower because the Cobb Energy Performance Center was not strict about cameras like they promised they would be in the email we got weeks before the show...several folks had them.

We had GREAT seats (fifth row!), so luckily there was no need for a serious zoom.  And with the exception of the two pics above, most of the phone pics weren't THAT bad. :)

Playing with her $10 glow stick.  I really should go into the business that sells those things...

The show was AMAZING.

High energy all the way through.  And they sung most of their stuff live (no unnecessary little lip-syncing).

M sang, clapped, and danced right along with them.

Blurry, but by far my favorite picture of the night.

Since the YoGabbaGabba show back in October 2010, I'm a sucker for VIP packages.  So we did the afterparty with the toys, games, crafts, and food for the kids.  And of course...

..the Meet and Greet (which is really just a quick photo opp).  Very much worth it -- she LOVES that she got to meet the Fresh Beat Band.  She had a great time!

We did a few more things over the weekend (like spent time with family) that need a separate blog post, so I'll probably post again Friday night.  In the meantime, I'll leave you with some short videos from the show.  Fun fun!  Enjoy the rest of your week!

(Oh, and if you're trying to decide if you will take your kid(s) to this show, stop.  Go buy your tickets NOW.  Tickets are going fast for the shows that aren't already sold out.  So go.  Now.  Here.)
