Hometown Weekend

Last Friday morning, DK and I decided that we'd go home for the weekend.  No reason but just to spend time with our folks before the summer gets busy.  So DK went to his hometown and stayed with his parents, and M and I went to my hometown and stayed with mom (both of our hometowns are about an hour drive away and only 30 minutes from each other).

Friday night M, my mom, and I went to dinner. Since we were so close to one of my aunts' house, we called her up to see if we could see them for a minute.  They stopped by the restaurant on their way to somewhere else, and I'm so glad they did.  It gave us a minute to catch up.

My aunt (left) and two cousins (in the middle).
I'm not pregnant, by the way. It's the way the dress is made. (Okay, and I ate too much.)

My aunt's daughter, D (next to me), is the absolute sweetest, most responsible teenager I know.  And that says a lot considering I teach teenagers.  I remember as early as her toddler years that she was this extremely considerate child with a heart way beyond her years.  That hasn't changed.  It's one of the reasons I know she'll have a great start when she begins college this fall.

And then my Aunt T is always fun to talk to and be around.  For some reason, our conversation that night turned to parenting.  She may not know it, but she gave me quite a bit of insight.  Honestly, I want my kid to be just like hers.

That little cutie in the middle (who I'm just realizing is just as tall as me -- if not taller) is one of my younger cousins who I actually met for the first time that night.  Her granddad and my dad are brothers.  It was great to get to meet her.

I didn't get a picture with my mom this weekend, but we enjoyed our weekend with her.  She and I didn't get on each other's nerves too bad (haha!), so that's even better.  She kept M Saturday morning so that I could go look for a much-needed pair of sandals.  I actually found a new summer dress, too, that's perfect for work and play. Yay, me. I'm extremely picky and hate (hate, hate) to shop, so to come home with TWO bags was a success for me.

I also got to see my grandma last weekend. And on Saturday, M and I met a friend and her kids for dinner and an evening at the park.  I'll tell you about that tomorrow.  I've got some sweet pics to share.

Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday.
