Basketball at the Beach

We spent some of the last few days of 2012 at the beach.  DK's assisting with basketball again this year, and the team had a three-day tournament down that way.  This was one of those trips where coaches families were invited to tag along.

Funny Story:  After I'd spent the morning on the beach with the little one, I told my husband that he could take the afternoon shift while I took a little "me" time to read or watch a movie (I ended up falling asleep - lame!).  M and I had already spent the morning playing in the sand -- mostly avoiding the water because it was freezing.

So on my husband's shift, he thought it'd be a good idea to just let the kid play in the water on this very cold day. I'm okay with that -- the problem was that she had on recently purchased leather Mary Janes.  He thought he could just throw them in the dryer when they got back to the room (I wish I was kidding), and it'd be okay.  Not only did the water make them soggy and yucky, but the dryer pretty much ruined them.  So funny!  I'm glad that HE was the one who bought those shoes!

There was a team from Alaska there who was in the water and getting them some REAL beach time (swimsuits, flip flops, the works).  The only problem with that is it was 40-something degree weather.   Is it that cold in Alaska to where they think that was warm enough to hit up the beach summertime style?  Remind me to never move to Alaska.

M was so excited to be riding a bus, but we were sure to have plenty of entertainment on hand for when she got restless.  Lots of Doc McStuffins, Oswald, and Word Girl.  (By the way, when in the world did buses get wi-fi and power outlets?  My, how times have changed.)

The team went to see a movie while we were there.  We used our tickets for Monsters Inc 3D. :-) Such a cute movie.

The Christmas decorations were still up in the shopping center.  We weren't home to enjoy the last few days of our Christmas tree, so I was glad to see the holiday spirit still filling the air.

It was a great trip, but boy was I glad to be back home.  By Day 3, my kid's sleep was all out of whack, which made for some crazy meltdown moments.  Good times.

Anyhoo, hope everyone had a great week! Enjoy your weekend!
