Back to Life. Back to Reality.

Hey, good people. :-)

It's been a minute.  I'm back in my element now because school has started back.  While I was sad to see summer go, I knew that I needed that structure back in my life.  So I'm glad to be back!

Teachers reported back to work two weeks ago for a week of planning and professional development.  It was great catching up with my department and planning for a brand new group of students. BOY was I tired at the end of each day, though.  Whew!

Once we got a chance to get into our classrooms, I hit the ground running with planning. I'd work my regular "shift," go get M from school, and then she and I would go BACK to my work for a few more hours.  I love that she is older now and actually enjoys going to work with me.  It's her favorite thing right now.

This was one afternoon outside my classroom.  She helped me get my classroom ready played on the iPad and wrote on the board the whole time.

Oh, and all the reactions to my new hair were so cool!  I've had my "new hurr" since early July, but  I was able to re-live the "newness" when I went back to work.  I was blushing inside all day from all the reactions.   One of my co-workers, who I used to teach across the hall from a few years ago, came to sit by me in a meeting to get a closer look. He said something like, "I want to touch it, but I know you wouldn't like that!" Ha! He knows me so well!

Speaking of which, a little public service announcement:  If you see me and feel the need to touch my hair, please don't.  I love you -- I mean REALLY love you -- but I don't like hands in my hair.  It kinda makes me sound "brand new" and snobby, but no one had any interest in touching my hair before now (so I've never had the NEED to say this until now).  But just so we're clear, PLEASE DON'T TOUCH, RUB, OR PET MY HAIR.  I DON'T LIKE IT.  Kinda like some pregnant women don't like folks touching their belly?  Yeah, it's like that.  Judge if you must, but I'm so for real.

Thankfully I haven't had any hair-touching incidents at work.  And the one person who thought about it knows how crazy I am. Hopefully everyone in the world reads my blog so I don't have to say this again because I'm pretty sure I'm starting to sound like a snob.

BUT I MEAN IT.

(And because I accidentally ran across this shirt online a couple of weeks ago, it's obvious that there are people out there who feel the same.  Glad to know I'm not as crazy as I sound. Thanks, Issa Rae.)

Anyhoo, M recently went back to school full time.  She officially started Pre-K this week.  It's her last year of preschool, and I'm feeling some kinda way about it...

Here are a few pics I've taken before and after school the past two weeks (she really didn't want to take ANY of these, and you can tell in some of the shots - ha!):

I can't get enough of this tan! :-)

She likes her new class, too.  Hope it lasts!

Field trip day!

So life is back to normal now.  The students came back a few days ago.  I'm teaching a new state-mandated Career Preparedness course to freshmen four periods a day, and then I have one Business Management class where I teach juniors and seniors.

Have I ever told you I love my job? I can't begin to tell you how much. This is my eighth year teaching, and I love it more each year. I feel so incredibly blessed.

Anyhoo, gotta go.  I'll be back soon to let you know how I did with my summer to do lists.  It's pretty embarrassing because I was SUCH a bum this summer, but it is what is.  I'm just glad to be in my element again.

Enjoy the rest of your week, good people!

Love,
G

PS - After reading the title of this post, is this song in your head?  Mine, too -- ha!!
